Barry and his team were simply a pleasure to work with at our wedding. Barry is not only a brilliant chef, but he is generous, accommodating, and possesses a jovial good-humor as well. It is so clear that he loves what he does, and wants to make your experience as positive and stress-free has possible. He worked closely with us before our wedding to create a vision for our meal that reflected the atmosphere that we were trying to create, and we trusted him completely to carry out that plan. He and his team did not disappoint! The food was delicious, unique, and fresh, and it was amazing to see Barry himself out and about interacting with our guests, explaining just how he made each dish. What we didn't know to care about ahead of time, but understood the importance of in retrospect, is just how dedicated Barry and his team were to sticking to our schedule; the appetizers were ready as soon as our ceremony was over, and all 170 guests were through the buffet in just about 30 minutes! There was no down-time or awkward lags between courses. Plus, everyone raved about the food. We do not have a single complaint about working with Barry-it was hands down one of the best decisions we made for the weekend!

"Selena and I are amateur foodies, so when we listed the critical ingredients for our wedding the first was location and second was food. Most of the quotes for our three day, two full meals for 120+, wedding camp extravaganza were the usual fare. Nothing about stuffed mushrooms or shells or anything that has been sitting in a steam tray soaked in marinara sauce was going to be appealing to us, and mostly that was what we saw from the local caterers at every price point. There was one exception, and of course it was Barry Clarke’s Barefoot Gourmet – who incidentally came highly recommended by many other locals. Barry’s sample menus were interesting and full of vitality, and the man himself has an absolutely infectious enthusiasm for good and interesting food.
We were invited out to his home in East Thetford for a tasting, and by the end of the first dish we knew we had hit pay dirt. Barry’s food was outstanding, authentic, and felt no need to check any boxes off the traditional banquet menu. Tacos as good as any we’d ever had in the southwest, samosas that we ate like popcorn with a delicious cilantro yoghurt sauce, it’s been months since that tasting and I can still recall everything we ate. Not only were we thrilled with the food at the tasting, but Barry was able to come up with two different menus – one “Mexican” and one “Indian” – at an astonishingly reasonable price. The man knows well where to make compromises and where to spend a little to get a better dish. FedEx-ing tortillas from Texas? Definitely worth it.
At our wedding Barry left nothing to chance, and left us with nothing to worry about. He even cooked a fantastic soup as it ended up being much worse weather than we had anticipated, and our guests were all glad for a little extra warmth. Both meals were as good as the tasting: the kind of food you find at that little restaurant down the street that you love, but assembled en masse for a group of extremely hungry guests. Everything was served buffet style on a line with excellent staff to describe each dish and various toppings and sides, which made it even more fun. In the end Barry was a big part of making our wedding everything we had hoped it could be, and we couldn’t be more happy to recommend him for any event, any where, any time."
